August 12, 2025 City Hall Update:
Irvine City Council Delays Open Space Ballot Measure

Community Victory – But the Fight Continues
Thanks to strong community pressure, the Irvine City Council has postponed moving forward with a confusing and potentially harmful ballot measure that could open the door to development on the Oak Creek Golf Club. This delay means our open space is safe — for now.

Only one council member openly admitted that the proposed ballot measure language was confusing. Because of the outcry from residents and the growing spotlight on this issue, the council backed down and pushed the vote into 2026.

This is a win we should celebrate — but it’s not the end. Developers are still eyeing Oak Creek for 3,100 housing units. We need to stay organized, and make it clear that Irvine voters will protect our open space.

Talk to your neighbors, educate them about the importance of Oak Creek, and request your HOA to join Save Irvine Open Space’s efforts. Let’s use this time to build our movement, spread the word, and prepare to defeat any attempt to take away our voter-approved protections. The future of Oak Creek — and Irvine’s last major open space — depends on it.
