Stand with Us to Protect the Oak Creek Center City Open Space

On October 31, 2025, former Mayor Sally Anne Sheridan, former Mayor, Save Irvine Open Space President Christina Shea, and HOA Presidents Paula Miller (The Ranch HOA), Rolf Parkes (Orangetree HOA), Matthew Bretan (WAA HOA), and Richard Forney (Parkcrest HOA) jointly signed a formal letter to the Irvine City Council.

In this letter, they call upon the City of Irvine and the Irvine Company to fulfill their legal obligation to record an open-space easement in the Village of Oak Creek — an easement that was promised in the 1988 Memorandum of Understanding and required by law in the mid-1990s but was never recorded.

The letter emphasizes that:

  • The Oak Creek Center City Open Space was designated for permanent public preservation;

  • The Irvine Company has already been compensated for the land and must now ensure it remains open space only — no further redevelopment or economic use is appropriate;

  • The City must act promptly and transparently to enforce its own municipal code and protect this land for the residents of Irvine.

We, the residents of Irvine and supporters of open space, stand with our former mayors and HOA leaders in asking the City Council to immediately place this matter on its agenda and direct the City Attorney to enforce the recording of the easement.
